In the Order all knights are noble; some have been born noble, others have been ennobled ad personam by becoming Knights (of Magisterial Grace); but only those who have been born noble (Knights of the Honor and Devotion or Grace and Devotion classes) can access the small leading group represented by the positions of High Offices, Priors, Vicars, Lieutenants, Procurators, Regents, Chancellors of Priories and , in almost all cases, to the Justice Class. All members of the Order are entitled to the treatment of Illustrious. To the dignities of the Grandes Crosses, that of His Excellency. All this without prejudice that may correspond to each member for other reasons.
En la Orden todos los caballeros son nobles; algunos han nacido nobles, los otros han sido ennoblecidos ad personam al convertirse en Caballeros (de Gracia Magistral); pero sólo los que han nacido nobles (Caballeros de las clases de Honor y Devoción o de Gracia y Devoción) pueden acceder al pequeño grupo dirigente representado por los puestos de Altos Cargos, Priores, Vicarios, Lugartenientes, Procuradores, Regentes, Cancilleres de Prioratos y, en casi todos los casos, a la Clase de Justicia. A todos los miembros de la Orden les corresponde el tratamiento de Ilustrísimo/a. A las dignidades Grandes Cruces el de Excelentísimo/a. Todo ello sin perjuicio que pueda corresponder a cada miembro por otros motivos.
